Even if you are not a Christian, you might want to know why prayer and fasting is powerful.

However, it may surprise you that the phrase prayer and fasting only occurs twice in the Holy Bible. You will find those references at Matthew 17:21 and Mark 9:29.

Thus, prayer and fasting, as a phrase in the Bible, is not popular at all! Yet its operation exerts more force than any explosive that any man could make!

Even though prayer and fasting consist of two distinct Christian disciplines, in reality, it is one task.

Therefore, I won’t talk or write about why prayer and fasting “are” powerful; instead, since it is a unit, I will write and talk about why prayer and fasting “is” powerful!

However, to answer the question: Why Prayer and Fasting “is” strong, below, I will provide a basic explanation of each?

What Is Prayer?

If we possess a biblical appreciation of both prayer and fasting then we can easily understand why prayer and fasting is powerful!

“In its simplest form, a prayer or petition is when a person makes a request of the Lord God from his or her heart.”

Leroy A. Daley

That is my definition of a prayer!

Here are three examples of biblical prayers

  • Here the chief servant of Abraham, I don’t recall his name now, had a special request for the Lord. See Genesis 24:12-14.
  • Hannah distinctly asked the Lord for a “man child” or a son. See 1 Samuel 1:10-11 and
  • Finally, Jesus also made a request of his Father, the Lord God. See Luke 22:42!

These are all prayers or petitions to God!

Did you observe, in each instance of prayer, that each person asked the Lord for something or someone and that the request came from the person’s heart?

Are There Written Prayers?

In other words, the person wasn’t just talking but his or her utterance emanated from his or her heart. And that is prayer!

So have you been praying? Have you been making petitions to the Lord God from your heart? Note that none of these prayers was written or read from any medium!

Instead, they all came straight from the prayers’ hearts!

What Is Fasting?

Now, don’t allow unbiblical teachers, who teach that you could eat or drink while fasting to be stumbling blocks in your spiritual journey.

Just jump over them or go around them!

If you believe their teachings you will never understand and enjoy why prayer and fasting is powerful! Trust me on this! Don’t believe them; their motives are dark!

Why Prayer & Fasting Is So Powerful?

By now, you should have realized that prayer is telling the Lord what you want from Him and fasting is showing him how much you desire it!

This is great but this is not the reason prayer and fasting is so powerful!

Why Is Prayer Powerful?

Because when you comprehend the nature of a prayer you demonstrate that you fully understand your position on earth!

You are here to control Earth and subdue it! You are in charge of this baby! Therefore, know that you can ask the Lord God for anything that you desire and be fully confident that He will give it to you.

That’s the reason prayer is so powerful.

Thus prayer is powerful because we understand our status with the Lord and know how to get what we ask for.

It’s the realization that you could be anyplace and not even utter a word yet you could make your request known to Him and He hears and grants it!

Prayer is powerful because it is the might of God at your disposal. I didn’t make that up! The Lord says the same thing.

He says:

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

2 Chronicles 7:14

Prayer is powerful because it forces the Lord’s hands! It forces Him to act on your behalf. So, why are so many prayers unanswered? Because they are lacking!

Why Is Fasting Powerful?

Christian Fasting is powerful because it is a seeking for God! It is searching for Him to please and give Him pleasure.

The Lord encourages His people, and not everyone, to enjoy the power of fasting. He informs us that “if” we “seek his face”, then he will act when we “pray” 2 Chronicles 7:14.

One of the best and most effective ways to seek God is by fasting to Him! Thus, above when we “pray” and “seek his face” or fast we are worshipping God.

And that my friends gives God pleasure like nothing else that I know!

Therefore, fasting is powerful because by doing it we obey God and He acts on our behalf because we fasted!

“Therefore also now, saith the Lord, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning.”

Joel 2:12

Now Combine The Two – To Discover Why Prayer & Fasting Is Powerful

When we fast and pray we are being obedient to God. Because we obey Him that gives Him pleasure.

Additionally, when we pray and fast we force God to honor His Words.

It demonstrates to God that we fully understand our purpose on the Earth and our relation to Him relevant to our operations here.

Conclusion

In conclusion, there are times when we pray and we don’t see results. Many, Baby Christians, will stop praying at this point.

And because they stopped they will never discover why prayer and fasting is powerful!

However, the Fathers will never give up. At this juncture, don’t stop; instead, combine your praying with fasting.

You may not see immediate results, depending on the situation, but be confident that God has heard you and has acted. What you prayed and fasted for will materialize shortly!

Prayer and fasting always work!

So to answer why prayer and fasting is powerful, because the Lord’s Word cannot return to Him void? It must accomplish His will!

In closing, His will is that whatever you prayed for believing you already got it!
